Being in small business doesn’t need to be difficult - in fact, it should be fun. At All Things Business we believe there are three key pillars to setting up a successful business:
It’s sounds obvious right? Surely, the first thing most businesses do when setting up is lay the sturdy foundations to success right? Wrong. It’s the number one problem I see with budding new business owners keen to run before they can walk. A successful business needs a solid business foundation. This includes setting clear values and goals for the team to stick to and putting the right systems, structures, and finance in place.
Every good business is built by its people. Whether you’re a team of two or twenty, it’s crucial you have the right people around you to help make your business successful. This doesn’t just include staff, but the people you trust to do your books each month or those who handle legal issues. It’s vital that once you’ve got good people on board in your business, to look after them - but that’s a blog for another day!
Every business should strive to have exceptional customer service. If you’re good to deal with, and your team are efficient, trust me you’ll have people coming back to you. This means having really good habits around administration (emails, social media, customer support etc). Great customer service isn’t rocket science, but it can slip, when the pressure comes on and you’re snowed under in work. Don’t forget the basics - make sure your team know your product inside and out; encourage a positive attitude; if you make a promise, keep it; and keep your customer in the loop when dealing with challenges.
These three pillars to building a successful business seem obvious, but we know just how hard they can be to achieve. Get in touch with the team at All Things Business for support.
